James Anderson - Statement, 16 May 2026

Dear Party members,

I am writing to you again as your candidate to become the next Permanent Leader of the Green Party of Alberta. As stated before, I will continue to write to you every week until the leadership campaign and election conclude.

Key Areas of Concern and Focus

Since my last statement that described the five overall areas of concern impacting our Party, I have taken the time to focus this week on further remediating challenges related to: (1) the need for systematic retention of certain institutional knowledge and/or information; and (2) the research & development of new official policy on the latest political issues. This work is being conducted in preparation for a possible Policy Convention sometime within 2026, and it also starts the preliminary steps toward generating an eventual political strategy and platform prior to the upcoming provincial election in 2027.

Latest Actions Taken

Some significant developments have been made this week to both augment and optimize our future policy research capabilities for processing tons of publicly available information offered by Non-Government Organizations (NGOs). Due to limited volunteers and the sheer volume of information available to us, the Party could not process all of the information without it being laborious and slowing down policy development. Fortunately, as of this week, I have developed new techniques that leverage certain technologies to significantly cut down some of the workload and time. In addition, I have also begun the record-keeping of advocacy NGOs with specialized and technical expertise in specific subject matters. The collection and processing of information from NGOs is critical to expanding our Party’s policy research capabilities so that we: (1) avoid duplicating research efforts that NGOs have already completed; (2) effectively generate evidence-informed policy that earns legitimacy in the public eye; and (3) informs how we can orient policy and strategies to further align with Albertans public interests. The accumulation of all this information is expected to take place continuously throughout my time as your leader, and it will be used to further inform the future actions of our Party. Until next week’s missive, you can learn more about me by checking out my latest social media.
