Dear Party members,
I am writing this to you as my first of many weekly statements, not just as your Interim Leader, but also as a candidate to become your next Leader of the Green Party of Alberta. Every week until the Leadership Election, I will be writing to keep you informed of areas of concern and objectives for the Party, while communicating actions to address them.
Key Areas of Concern and Focus
While serving as your Interim Leader, key concerns have been identified as challenging for the Party since the last election in 2023 and they are as follows: (1) a previous lack of leadership and a Shadow Cabinet prior to my appointment; (2) limited volunteers; (3) reduced public communication and engagement; (4) minimal systematic retention of certain institutional knowledge and/or information; and (5) no new official policy on the latest political issues. These key concerns have impacted the Party’s ability to operate at its full potential. This is why I have committed myself to not just remediate these key concerns, but also work toward eliminating them by focusing efforts to build the Party’s resilience, adaptability, capacity, and capability prior to the next election.
Actions Taken So Far
So what is being done? Since being appointed Interim Leader, I have: (1) re-established a Shadow Cabinet and organized a system for appointing members; (2) initiated and set a standard for research on contemporary issues to ensure future policy proposals are evidence-informed; (3) engaged with the public by attending events and conferences; (4) developed a detailed document describing available volunteer roles and opportunities; (5) developed a clear mandate and standard operating procedures for the Communications Committee and eventual CA Committee; (6) started an Interim Leader social media presence; and more.
