Virtual Policy Convention

August 15, 2026 - Virtual Policy Convention NOTICE - 63 days before - If you did not receive this email, then you are not a current member. Please renew or get a new membership by clicking here!
August 22, 2026 - Draft Policy Convention Agenda
August 22, 2026 - Political Policy Amendment submission NOTICE - 56 days before. Send your amendments to [email protected] before 6 pm on September 26, 2026. For more info, scroll down to view the process!
September 12, 2026 - Virtual Policy Convention reminder to membership. If you did not receive this email, then you are not a current member. Please renew or get a new membership by clicking here!
September 17, 2026 - Must be a member by this date to vote at the Virtual Policy Convention - 30 days before
September 26, 2026 - Political Policy Amendment submission DEADLINE - at least 20 days before. Send your amendments to [email protected] before 6 pm on September 26, 2026.
End of September - 3rd Quarter Report to members by the President
October 3, 2026 - Final political Policy Amendment notification to membership - at least 10 days before (C8.1)
October 10, 2026 - Final Virtual Policy Convention Agenda
October 17, 2026 - Virtual Policy Convention 1 pm to 4 pm - Quorum: the lesser of 25 or 10% of members (rounded up)
December 16, 2026 - Deadline to update and report new political policies to membership (C8.4).
Process for Recommending a Political Policy Amendment
As we are rushing to get policies approved for the 2027 Alberta General Election, policies will be voted on at the Policy Convention in the following order as time allows.
FIRST Board-approved Shadow Cabinet-recommended policies;
SECOND Board-approved Member-recommended policies;
THIRD member-only-approved policies from the list below that get 7 seconders before the deadline on September 20, 2026; and
FOURTH policies moved from the floor of the meeting that get 7 seconders at the meeting.
Any policies that aren't voted on will be tabled until the next Policy Convention. The same categories and order will be used, and any policies not voted on will move to the top of the category next time.
Before recommending a political policy: Does the political policy you're thinking of follow the spirit of the Six Green Principles? AND do we already have it approved in our political policies?
Step One - If available, review the list of current recommended policies. Check whether a policy on your topic has already been approved by the Board. This list may not be available for a few weeks. We don't want to duplicate policies.
Step Two - Send your recommended policy to President Ian Hopfe: [email protected]
Step Three - The President and Leader may work with you to refine your policy.
Step Four - The Board will vote on your policy.
Step Five A - If the Board approves your policy, then it will be added to the member-recommended policy list. It will be linked here when members' policies get approved.
Step Five B - If the Board does not approve your policy, then it will be listed below. You will need 7 members to second your policy. The President will send weekly emails reminding members to review this list.
Member Recommended Policies
These policies listed below have not been seconded by the Board. If you want to see any of these on the Policy Convention agenda, then second them by sending an email to President Ian Hopfe: [email protected]
If any of these recommended policies do not receive at least 7 "Seconds" by email from members, they will not be put on the list for the Policy Convention.
If time allows, members can move these policy recommendations from the floor of the Policy Convention.
