The Green Party of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that Alberta is located on the traditional territories of many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. These lands are covered by Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8, and 11, and are home to the Otipemisiwak Government of the Métis Nation in Alberta and to the many distinct Métis communities throughout the province. We recognize and honour the enduring relationships Indigenous peoples have with these lands, waters, animals, and ecosystems since time immemorial.
In the spirit of truth, respect, and gratitude, we acknowledge the original peoples of this land. We recognize that colonial governments and the systems created and maintained through them coerced and subjugated First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples through policies of displacement, assimilation, and exclusion. These harms continue to impact Indigenous communities today.
The Green Party of Alberta is committed to working toward justice, reconciliation, and meaningful recompense for the prejudicial abuses and systemic barriers that still exist. We believe this work must be guided by Indigenous voices, laws, knowledge systems, and leadership. By listening to and working alongside First Peoples, we seek to strengthen land-based wisdom, stewardship, and relationships across Alberta.
As Alberta continues to grow and evolve with people from many cultures and nations, we remain mindful of historic and ongoing injustices while striving to move forward together through inclusive, equitable, and respectful decision-making for all peoples who now call this land home.
