Ian Hopfe

Ian Hopfe is an Indigenous Human Resources Consultant and member of the Bigstone Cree Nation in Treaty Eight. Ian has a Bachelor of Management in HR and Labour Relations from the University of Lethbridge, a Human Resources Management Certificate from MacEwan University, is a CPHR Candidate, and is a trained facilitator of the KAIROS Blanket Exercise.
As an Indigenous person, Ian’s cultural beliefs of stewarding and protecting the land are the primary reason for being a Green Party member. Ian believes the treaties are the foundation of all governments in Canada and must be honoured as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow.
Ian has 25+ years of leadership experience serving as a board member and chairperson for volunteer and non-profit organizations. Some boards he’s been on are:

Municipal District of Opportunity #17 Library Board (Wabasca); and

Peace Library System (Grande Prairie).
The only political party Ian has ever supported has been the Green Party! Ian’s political experience with the Green Party:

Six years as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Green Party of Alberta (GPA) Edmonton-City Centre Constituency Association (CA);

CFO for a GPA candidate in the 2019 30th Alberta Provincial Election;

Green Party of Canada (GPC) candidate for the 2006 39th Canadian General Election;

GPA candidate for the 2004 26th Alberta General Election;

GPC candidate for the 2004 38th Canadian General Election;

GPA candidate for the 2001 25th Alberta General Election; and

a year as the president of the Alberta division of the GPC in the mid 2000s.
