ATTN: (MLAs / City Councillors / Public Officials,
As a constituent of Calgary (riding) I am writing to express my deep concern over the proposed Parental Rights legislation that the UCP is presenting. As a member (ally) of the 2SLGBTQ community, I urge you
to oppose this dangerous and hateful legislation.
The government is meant to serve and protect all people, not just a selective few. This legislation goes against the values of inclusion and diversity that Canada and Alberta prides itself on. Everyone deserves the right to express themselves freely and safely in a society that celebrates individuality. This proposed legislation not only goes against these values, but it also puts the safety and well-being of Transgender individuals at risk.
Coming out is an important and often difficult step in the journey of self-discovery for 2SLGBTQ individuals. Forcing them to come out to their parents, without their consent, can have severe consequences. It can lead to rejection, discrimination, and even violence. This legislation completely disregards the emotional and physical safety of Transgender youth and can have devastating effects on their mental health.
I understand that as a heterosexual cisgender person, you may not fully understand the struggles that the 2SLGBTQ community faces. However, I implore you to set aside any personal or religious beliefs and think about the potential harm that this legislation can impose on Transgender youth. This legislation does not consider the unique circumstances of each individual and can cause irreparable damage to their lives.
As an elected representative, it is your duty to protect the rights and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I urge you to stand against this legislation and send a message of inclusivity and acceptance to the 2SLGBTQ community.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope to see you take a stand against this harmful legislation and show your support for inclusivity and safety for all Albertans.
